EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS
Keep track of what you eat, including the exercises you do. Having data will allow you to find the problem quickly when you can't see any results.
We have the misconception that eating less will help us lose pounds; false. If your body feels like it's starving, it will hold fat as a survival mechanism. Another thing is that depriving yourself of food can lead to waking up in the middle of the night with cravings and breaking your diet.
If you are stressed, your body goes into survival mode; again. From my experience as a person that suffered from chronic stress, I will say that one of the biggest enemies of weight loss and muscle development is stress.
Having a healthy mindset is crucial. Our thoughts and feelings affect everything we do—the good thing is that we can choose them. So, be aware, especially if it is self-sabotaging.
Sometimes we get ambitious with our goals. We want to lose ten pounds in a week but that is not healthy, especially for women, because it will throw our hormones out of control. Let's be realistic and do it healthily.
The gym is not the only way we can exercise. We can do pilates, ride a bike, etc. You have to enjoy exercising because if you don't get excited about what you're doing, you can end up quitting.
Eat what makes your body feel good. Our body sends us signals of what it likes or can't stand. For example, I know we all enjoy eating pizza, but if you eat it every day, you are probably going to get sick. See food as fuel and not as comfortable.
We need sleep to rest and help our bodies recover. Not sleeping causes fatigue and stress; those factors do not help reduce fat. Sleep helps combat stress.
In addition to helping us with digestion and eliminating toxins, it controls our appetite. When you don't drink enough water throughout the day, your body thinks it's hungry, but no, it's dehydrated.
